Laibach Ladybird Chenin Blanc Sur Lie 2022 is a textured, characterful white wine made from older, organically farmed vines in Stellenbosch. Low yields, hand-picked grapes and extended lees ageing give it depth and a silky feel, while its bright citrus acidity keeps the wine lively.

Proefnotities
In the glass, the wine is a light straw colour. The nose offers white nectarine, pineapple and yellow apple, with a subtle note of dried herbs. On the palate it is rich and velvety, balanced by long, fresh acidity with hints of lemon and lime, and a notably persistent finish. Enjoy it now, or cellar it for around six to ten years, during which its structure and complexity can continue to develop.

Productie
The Chenin Blanc comes from older, organically farmed vineyards in Stellenbosch, where four separate blocks bring different characters and ripen over a period of about three weeks. The grapes are hand-picked, where possible early in the morning, and naturally fermented in open vats with extended skin contact. No enzymes, yeast nutrients or fining agents are added. After pressing, the wine matures for 11 months on its lees in concrete eggs and larger-format barrels, without added sulphur during this period.

Eten & Serveren
Serve lightly chilled, at around 10–12 °C. Its ripe fruit and fresh acidity make it a good match for roast chicken, grilled fish, shellfish or creamy vegetable dishes. A brief spell in the glass should be enough to open up its aromas; decanting is not essential.
