Château d’Yquem sits on the highest hill in Sauternes, in Bordeaux, where morning mist and warm afternoon sun create ideal conditions for noble rot, or botrytis cinerea. The estate’s low yields and strict selection ensure that only the best, fully botrytised grapes are harvested, often in multiple passes through the vineyard to pick berries at peak concentration. The blend is dominated by Sémillon, with Sauvignon Blanc adding freshness and aromatic lift. Vinification is carried out with great precision to preserve purity and balance, followed by extended aging in oak barrels to build texture, depth and complexity. The result is a wine of remarkable intensity and elegance, shaped by both the terroir and an uncompromising approach in the cellar.

Eten & Serveren
Serve Château d’Yquem 2005 slightly chilled, ideally around 10–12°C, to best appreciate its aromatic complexity and balance. It pairs beautifully with foie gras, blue cheese such as Roquefort, fruit-based desserts, tarte Tatin or simply on its own as a contemplative wine. Decanting is usually not necessary for a wine of this style and age, but a short aeration can be helpful if the bottle has been stored for a long time.
